System Mechanic 8
I can get this program right now for $20 but what I'd like to know is if it's worth it or is it stuff I can do on my own?

I wouldn't use it, I've heard of many bad side effects caused by the program. There's a lot of freeware that can do what it does.

I tried a freeware version of this program... I ended up, reinstalling windows. Usually something like Glary Utilities or CCleaner will handle most everything you'd need it for and both of them are free.

I can try and recommend freeware to you based on the needs you have that System Mechanic may have provided.

system mechanic kinda takes over your pc (like norton).I got a fully legit copy of SM6 free and installed it on my laptop which really needs reformatted now as it happens
One program I do like is,TuneUp Utilities('08) again legit copies on both my pcs and I swear by it (unless someone can show me the error of my ways)

@ Tarun, thanks I'd appreciate it.
@ Calista, is that free? It sounds familiar.
